Romans 12:2 – “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”
We live in a society where appearances often matter more than truth. Social media teaches us to display a perfect life, hide our weaknesses, and follow standards that do not come from God. Many wear masks to be accepted, praised, or included, but live insecure, empty, and disconnected from who they really are.
However, God’s call is different: He does not want edited versions of ourselves. He wants authentic hearts, renewed minds, and lives transformed by the truth. In Romans 12:2, Paul warns: do not conform to this world, do not copy their moulds, do not live according to their standards. Instead, allow God to transform your mind, your values, your identity.
Psalm 51:6 – “Behold, thou lovest truth in the inwardmost part; and in the hidden part thou makest me to know wisdom.”
Being real means living with integrity, even when it costs you followers, approval, or applause. It means choosing to please God rather than the crowd. It means acknowledging weaknesses, relying on grace, and rejecting hypocrisy. In a world of “filters,” sincerity shines through. And where there is truth, there is freedom.
John 8:32 – “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”
The world may value appearances. God, however, looks at the person. He is not impressed by appearances but rejoices in humble and true hearts. Holiness is not feigned, it is lived. Faith is not publicised, it is practised. Purpose is not displayed, it is discovered in secret with God.
Timothy was an example — even though he was young and surrounded by opposing influences. His commitment to Christ was more important than being accepted by others. This applies to us too: your calling sets you apart. What is permissible for others may not be healthy for you. What distracts others may distract you from your purpose.
Hebrews 12:1 – “Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking steadfastly to Jesus.”
Being real means having the courage to be who God called you to be, even if it goes against the grain. Don’t follow the crowd. Follow the truth.
God did not call you to be like everyone else. He set you apart for something greater. So when you feel like you are living differently, remember: it is not pride, it is purpose. They may… but you, Timothy, do not.
